CONTEMPORARY FARMHOUSE KITCHEN

This kitchen was created by combining two areas.  There was once a small kitchen and an adjacent that had a small dining table for everyday dining activities.  The divided spaces were problematic to my clients as it created a cramped kitchen with limited storage.  An improperly placed, L-shaped peninsula blocked the flow between the kitchen and the dining area.  It was problematic for both parents to be cooking while feeding young toddlers.  It created a traffic jam of activities.

A solution was to combine the two spaces into one large cooking/eat-in area.  Combining the spaces allowed us to extend the kitchen to both spaces thus increasing work counter areas, storage options, larger sized appliances and more importantly a large island where all members of the family can sit around.  A more functional U-shaped layout with a central island provides a much more efficient traffic flow for the various activities in this now family-friendly kitchen.
